    Unit 11 and SOPs

I'm trying to get on with Unit 11, but a number of times it says about following SOPs we just don't have.
Does anyone have SOP for collectiong prescriptions from surgery, measuring and fitting appliances, completing the monthly submission form? Cos we don't & I don't think I'll be too popular if I start asking him to write them like NOW!
    Any ideas?
    Oh, amd Happy New Year!

    Happy New Year!

We have one for operating a collection service, and I used a copy of a company guidance/training document on doing the monthly submissions. I didn't include any SOP regarding measuring and fitting appliances, just went through in my report what I did and why. This seemed to be enough!

Hope that is of some help!

    Happy New Year to all!

The only SOP our pharmacy was missing was the measuring and fitting appliances and on the advice of my supervising pharmacist I put in the report we didn't have an SOP on this and that we followed the normal dispensing SOP but with extra precautions such as double checking the size, type, brand etc and checking with the patient on handing it out, and with the pharmacist etc.
No idea if this has been accepted yet or not as I only sent it off a couple weeks ago so fingers crossed!

    Re: Unit 11 and SOPs

    Hey Ginny,
Regards SOP's I had trouble relating one of the units to the SOP's earlier in the course. I never asked but my marker told me that if I didn't have any SOP's to answer certain criteria or was struggling to integrate them as they weren't in enough detail then as long as I wrote... our pharmacy doesn't have an SOP which covers this however in our pharmacy we do this, this and this then that would be sufficient enough to pass the criteria etc. They just want to know that you have searched for it and considered the procedures that you do have in place.
I've not had any problems doing that in future reports either and touch wood nothing has been rejected!!! My markers really good and I think shes been a marker for a while.
    Hope this helps Krisi x

Thank you all for your help. I've now said not got, but follow PSNC guidelines, or MEP etc. This is taking hours, and I know there's loads I've got to do yet. Can only do so much when we're shut for 4 days!
Note for the NPA- give a nice one over the Xmas period, not a pig that needs loads of stuff!

Shut for 4 days? Wow, we were only closed for Christmas Day! Guess its time and a half over the Bank Holidays though.
I'm doing Unit 6 which is the Customer Service one and its ideal to do over Christmas because most people find something to complain about! I've no idea why but customers were really miserable on New Years Day too...I think I could have written all my activity reports for this Unit on that one day alone. Oh well...roll on the rest of 2011...

Time and a half for some- we are just getting a different day off in lieu (I have a very tight store manager!) Same here for being closed just Christmas Day!

Fingers crossed that people get back to "normal" as soon as possible, and the constant flood of emergency antibiotics for our Care Homes stop soon!

HELP!!! I am on unit 11! Just a few points i have to cover now! seem to have got most of the points although far too many pharmacy questions i reckon. ive noticed that some of you have wrote about having trouble finding sops for dispensing or issuing appliances. We don't have SOPs for this and dont have sops for alot of things we should have in our pharmacy. The SOPs we do have are all off the npa website which I do have access to! However I am still struggling integrating an SOP (that doesnt exist) into my reports.
I know you said that you can say we dont have an sop and follow normal procedures - but i cant find an sop for this either even though i've checked the whole file at work. And Ginny you wrote about referring to PSNC - i did go on there but cant find anything SOP wise - have you got a link - i found one about new requirements for supplying appliances but I dont think it goes into enough detail regards the standard??? just about tearing my hair out with this unit

Krisi - you don't have access to the NPA website i.e you don't have a NPA number and password?

I had the same problem when I wanted to download the forms so I could type my reports then copy and paste them into the regarding forms - if you ring the NPA and give them your pharmacy NPA number and ask what the password is to log into the site they should give it to you. They did for me anyway!

Thank god we can type the reports...I wouldn't even want to imagine how long it would take if I had to handwrite them all. Good luck! x
