hi tinx from july 11 u have to be registered or else u cant work or use the title tech thats what i read somewhere plus if u dont register now once it comes compulsory u might have to do extra training.
"What happens if I don't register before the deadline?
Under mandatory registration it wll be a legal requirement for all pharmacy technicians to be registered with us. If you don't apply to register with us before 1st July 2011 you will not be able to continue to call yourself, or work as, a pharmacy technician. If you want to register after mandatory registration starts you will also need to meet our post-transitional entry requirements. This may mean that you may need to complete further qualifications before you can register with"
taken from Pharmacy Technician Registration FAQ hope that helps
If your employer is going to pay the fees for you, even if it takes a little while, what on Earth's the downside? As a hospital tech who's not got round to it yet, we'll get £39 per year professional fees payment, which is based around nurses but doesn't cover anyone else (pharmacists get the same for their bigger payments). And even then, we won't get that bit of help until after it's made mandatory.
I'm into my second year of being a registered pharmacy technician, I'm also an ACT. My employer pays my fees which he doesn't have to do, I know some don't. Once registered you also have to do CPD, a minimum of 9 entries a year.
