    NVQ3 Unit 11

New poster here so please bear with me!

I know this question has been asked a couple times before after trawling through some of the previous threads but am still struggling with Unit 11 Community Specialist Services and the whole out of service payment thing.

From what I gather this is an out of hours payment but this service is no longer done? I've rang my PCT who didn't seem to know what I was going on about, and also emailed the PSNC who told me this service is no longer available...and to contact my PCT.

I work for a supermarket pharmacy which is open 14 hours a day until 10pm and I'm also confused if being open till 10pm counts as being open on an "out of hours" basis.
My tutor hasn't been very helpful and has just left me to it to find out what it all means, and the more I research the more confusing it seems to be! Neither have I been set a simulation question on it so I kinda feel as if I'm floundering.

Any help or info is greatly appreciated!

I'm was stuck on the same bit, but have found out a bit. An endorsement is no longer needed as an individual payment is agreed between pharmacy and PCT for an "on-call" pharmacist to open up and dispense an rx out of opening hours.
I too work in a supermarket and will never have a the prescription needed.
An assessor said all i need to do is get my tutor to set a question asking to explain what an out of service payment is and where I can find this info out ( a PSNC document).

I believe our course was put together in 2007/8, but out of service payments stopped in 2005 and creates another in a list of difficulties for us.

In the old days, drs had to write 'Urgent' on a script to get extra payment. This was in the days when the pharmacist 'lived over the shop' and may have had the bell ring late at night. Did this myself when my father became delirious with high temperature.
    Emergency item was Mist Aspirin!.
In the fast changing environment in which we live, I believe that these questions relating to history are 'not fit for purpose'. Just write 'not applicable.' Eg. because two local supermarkets are 100 hour, the local PCT refused rota payments.

I did a Pharmacist Assessment for this one.
I covered bank holiday arrangements, for our area, and explained that supermarket pharmacies nearby have longer opening hours.
I also mentioned the out-of-hours fomularly in the Drug Tariff, and how we aim to keep these type of drugs in stock.

Thanks for all the replies - have since been set a Pharmacist Assessment and have managed to get somewhere with it though I do have to agree that this seems seriously outdated. The part of the unit that goes on about oxygen cylinders and storage in the pharmacy and transportation to patients homes also seems outdated in my opinion.

I couldnt, so I did a Pharmacist's Assessment for that one, writing about what the blacklist is, what type of products it covers (giving specific examples as well) and what action I would take if presented with a script for a blacklisted item.

    Re: NVQ3 Unit 11

I'm still having problems with this Unit nearly 2 months on - I've never had so many issues trying to cover criteria, knowledge and ranges and it just doesn't help I know little to nothing about oxygen and MDS. Have done the research and have written all the activity reports bar one, which is MDS as I can't think of a suitable Pharmacist Assessment question to use that covers the missing criteria and the knowledge (even though I thought it should be my pharmacist setting me these 'questions'). I've not had anything returned for a resub so far but I'm not at all confident about this Unit at all. Plus I'm nearly a month past when I should have submitted it. Anyone else having as much fun as me?

I didn't find that Unit too bad, as I work in an MDS unit and went downstairs to walk-in Pharmacy for relevant bits. I'm finding Unit 1 harder than I anticipated and it is now over a month late too!
Does your pharmacy not do any MDS or Dossett Boxes at all then? If so, are you part of a chain, and is there another branch you could visit to do MDS for an afternoon or something?
