I totally agree you need a good team of support staff including techs do (try) and get everything done during the working day. With regards to El-loco's comment, the support staff are likely to know far more about the way a particular branch is run in comparison to a locum pharmacist who may never have set foot in that branch before but if there is a regular pharmacist/branch manager (or some poor soul who gets the joy of being both) they are the ones making the majority of the decisions and with all due respect techs, dispensers and HCAs are all there to support the pharmacist just as the pharmacist should be providing support to all the other staff members in order to make sure you all do your jobs to the best of your ability. In my opinion it works both ways and you should all be supporting each other.

But back on the subject of fees for techs it sounds to me like you're paying a lot of money for a title and a number and very little else. I would say you have every right to feel hard done by.
Normally i would say yes but my last day at my current place is next Friday and not being a big head or anything but any locums going in to the branch after that day will be badly treated as my colleague is less than welcoming and incredibly lazy and the young girl who is taking my place is lovely but has no experience, qualifications or interest in doing the job. She mistakenly believes she can just turn up, mess about putting on nail varnish all afternoon and get paid......bless.....
    Good luck folks.....ha ha...
Anyway, back to fees.....just seen the article about the £15 extra direct debit fee in this weeks PJ. So, if we pay be quarterly DD its £15 more but pay the full sum by DD and you don't need to pay any extra. Small comfort I suppose.
Also loved the letter from a R A Jephson about admitting non-pharmacy scientists to the new professional body. And i quote "Already we have experienced an uneccessary DOWNGRADING of the pharmacy profession when, for some strange reason, Technicians were admitted"..........how nice!!! I'd love to know what the hell we've been admitted too. We are being regulated as a group of working folk but we aren't part of anything really.
Last week I had to follow a very, very bad locum. He worked on the Monday and I did my full day on the Wednesday and there was so much mess this "pharmacy professional" had left behind him. If anyone has downgraded the profession it's a****** like him. He's been reported as have all of his dispensing errors and SOP violations etc.

those pharmacists hey! pesky people, paying fess to display a bit of paper saying they are responsible..swanning into different shops on a daily basis violating SOPs left, right and centre......i'm surprised you don't trust them to touch the alarm yet patients trusted their lives with them!

I know!!! Naughty pharmacists......i don't normally split on 'em but the dispensing errors came right back so we had no choice really. The other stuff he did/didn't do were mildly annoying. We even have a locum form to fill in now so we can grass them up in style!!! And would you believe that locum co-ordinators now won't re-book a locum if they don't do at least two MUR's???
