Completed NVQ 3 - Can i join register?

    Hi all,

I have recently completed my NVQ 3 and am currently waiting for my certificate. I am wanting to join the register but I don't understand the work experience section. To join under route a, you must have a valid UK qualification and also at least 28 hours work experience in the last 2 out of 4 years.

I joined the pharmacy in April 2008 and started my NVQ 2 almost straight away, which I completed in Sep 2008. I then started my NVQ 3 in Jan 2009 and completed August 2010. So, I have worked at the pharmacy for over two years, does this count as relevant work experience?

This is probably a daft question but I am totally confused and anyones help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
    Charlotte

Re: Completed NVQ 3 - Can i join register?

    Hi Charlotte
If you're unsure about joining the register, email the organisation. At the moment, i'm not sure who you actually contact anymore. The society are giving up all the stuff to do with registering to the new council. Haven't really taken much notice of all this swapping and changing business apart from the fact that it's probably going to cost me more to stay on the register for nothing in return. No PJ, no support, no cheapo bit of blue cardboard that passes as a registration certificate and not being part of the Pharmacy world anymore as we aren't allowed to join anything other than the APTUK which is a complete waste of time, effort and money also.....
Still, it could be worse.....I could be working for a large chain that treats it's staff like robots!!! Ooooh wait a minute....I do....ha ha ha.

Anyway, now i've stopped moaning Charlotte, i'm amazed at how quickly you passed your NVQ3!! Very impressive. Well done you. A friend of mine isn't bothering to register till it becomes mandatory next year as you can see from my rant above that there seems little reason to at the moment. The best thing for you to do is to read as much as you can about registering and the new council and then make your own mind up. If your boss will pay your registering fees then that's a plus.

Re: Completed NVQ 3 - Can i join register?

Thanks for your advice, I will email then tonight.
I work for Boots, they are a nightmare to work for. I love the job but find the workload is huge and I work in a difficult team (team work in not in existance!) Hence I needed to complete my NVQ as quickly as possible. Now I can look for another job!

Thanks again for your message, you've been very helpful. The registering process was becoming a little confusing.

Until this week I have been in exactly the same position (although still a few modules to go!) - finally transferred and started at a new store this Monday- still loving it now!

We also have problems with "the team"......just one of the many reasons i've been job hunting for quite some time now but had no success. I think once you do find the right job and folk to work with, there'll be no stopping you. Just as an update, i've had the expensive leaflets through from the new council about registering, CPD, standards etc. It does seem to recommend that all Techs register asap but I still can't see what the benefit is at this stage. There's a fair amount of info in the leaflets that bang on about what's expected and required of Pharmacy professionals but sod all about what's in it for us. Hopefully this new council will support the Pharmacists and actually listen to them for a change. That would be a start if nothing else.
The phone number to use if you want to talk to someone at the council about registering is 0845 504 6277.

here are the websites http://www.rpsgb.org/pdfs/pr090626a.pdf http://www.rpsgb.org/pdfs/techregcriteria.pdf

On 1 July 2011 registration will become mandatory (compulsory). You will need to apply to register before 1 July 2011 to continue working as a pharmacy technician. If you don’t apply to register before mandatory registration starts you will not be able to call yourself or work as a pharmacy technician. If you want to register after mandatory
registration starts you will also need to meet our post‐transitional entry requirements. This may mean that you will need to complete further
qualifications before you can register. More information is available at: Rpsgb.org: Pharmacy technicians

    hope that helps

Re: Completed NVQ 3 - Can i join register?

As mentioned earlier, after the 1st July 2011 the title “Pharmacy Technician” will become a restricted title and only those individuals registered with the regulatory body will be able to work as a Pharmacy Technician.
The registration process (via the qualifications route) takes a number of weeks to complete. Once all the documentation has been submitted to the regulator and is correct, the registration process takes a minimum of 4 weeks to complete for a route ‘a’ application but may be as long as 4 months for a route ‘b’ or non UK application.
If you do not register during the “grandparenting” period which ends at midnight on 30 June 2011 you will need to comply with the criteria for registration set out in full in section 2 of the registration criteria document referred to above.
For example you will be required to complete additional qualifications such as
NVQ Level 3 if you only have the BTec /Technical Certificate or
a recognised Technical certificate if you only have the NVQ Level 3
Due to the number of technicians still requiring registration, there is a risk of*significant delays in the registration process as the deadline approaches. If you have not submitted your application for registration before 1st July 2011 then you will not be able to work. The implications of this on individuals and departments will need to be discussed with individual Trust HR departments.

thats what i saw sorry for all the posts

Can someone tell me the difference working as a Pharmacy Technician and as a Dispensary Assistant ??? Let's say if you are already getting a salary of an Technician and you are incharge of the dispensary (not competing with the pharmacist), you do all the things in a dispensing process, then will the designation "Technician" make any difference ???

in the pharmacy i work in NO as im still classed as the new girl who doesnt know anything worthy or helpful, cause the pharmacist and ACT know best (heads up each others backsides and hate being told that things are in place in multiples that they should be doing to get paid extra) but i do get high dispenser rate at moment and will get technician pay when qualify (hopefully by dec)
