Hi I`m writing up a report on a split pack of prograf and am wondering why these capsules should be used with in 1 year of opening aluminum wrapping I know it much be a stability issue but whats with the aluminum!
When blister packs first introduced they were ally one side and clear plastic the other. However, there could be water paper diffusion through the plastic so many companies started using ally both sides. Aluminium has proven water vapour resisting properties. (why used for dried soups etc).
Most ally/plastic packs have shelf life of two years. All aluminium probably double.

It mentions that there are several blisters packed inside an aluminium packet with a dessicant - my thoughts would be not that there is something wrong with the aluminium but that the drug is hygroscopic and deteriorates when exposed to air due to absorbed moisture - though not as fast as other medicines (e.g. nicorandil).
Thus when the packet is opened, the aluminium and dessicant safeguards are compromised and hence a reduced expiry.
