NVQ3 Module 10
Is anyone doing module 10 on the cardiovascular system and if so how u finding it?
I think I covered everything but just wondering if anyone has any tips on anything i may have missed. Qu 5 - what info would you give a patient about taking ramipril, furosemide, gtn and warfarin.
Areas I covered in my answer where,
how to take the medication i.e. gtn should be dissolved under the tongue - never swallowed, furosemide to be taken in the morning (with obv reasoning) plus to swallow whole with water, ramip - advise to take first dose at bedtime due to the potential for it causing a fall in blood pressure and warfarin to be taken at the same time each day to prevent potential overdose and obvious complications.
I also referred briefly to the storage instructions with the gtn i.e. discard within 8 weeks of opening, keep in orig container! Also related low blood pressure risk.
For warfarin I wrote that Id need to tell patient to follow their yellow book instructions etc and to keep an eye out for side effects like bruising, nose bleeds etc in relation to taking it and also to avoid cranberry juice.
Also briefly covered while taking the tablets other common side effects.
think I covered everything but any further advice/suggestions appreciated. if I got anything incorrect that would be helpful to know too.
thanks in advance Krisi

Re: NVQ3 Module 10
You could point out signs of hypokalaemia (furosemide).
Warfain - NSAIDs! Important to tell any HC professional that they are on warfarin, esp for OTC sales.

Re: NVQ3 Module 10
Hey Emma, thanks for the pointers- appreciate it.
Ginny, i always get my modules late lotsa laughs with my 'tutor.' I ask for them and always get them dayyyyys if not weeks later so i never know if they early or late haha!
Where are you up to with the module? I havent done the exam yet- i like to get my case studies etc done then have a concentrated effort on the revision together or it doesnt stay in my head
I tend to just skim read the booklet while i do the case studies. If I find any thing whilst I'm revising that I could have missed in my case studies I add them afterwards. Sounds a long winded way to do things but my memory is hopeless
How u finding it? I have that problem with time - ive not had my time for a few weeks at work but been busy at home so it took a backseat for a little while. fingers crossed u get the time this week.

Re: NVQ3 Module 10
Hi Krisi,
I think I make work for myself. I read the module through, making notes as I go, then I take test, then I do case studies. The case studies always seem to take a week. This module is interesting, but has lots of stuff to learn.

Re: NVQ3 Module 10
You could always put the case studies on the forum for us to advise and comment.

Re: NVQ3 Module 10
Hey Ginny, i reckon that would be a better way to do things as then you can apply what you learn in your case studies more easily. Yeah I find that with the case studies- they do tend to take longer than the allocated time.
Have you done the exam - if so how you find it. If not have you decided when you are taking it. I'm aiming to do it this next week or so I reckon all being well. Which of course means it will be in a few weeks now I've said that
Johnep - you want the whole case study on the forum... do i sense sarcasm

Re: NVQ3 Module 10
Hi Krisi,
I did the exam today. I found it ok- but I really crammed before as I've fallen down on the last couple by getting muddled on my drugs!
I'vve been working on the module til about 10-1030 every night this week, re-read it today and then took it before it all fell out my brain!
Going to start case studies on Monday. I usually read it, think 'Oh it's ok I know that' and then spend hours working out how to put the answer!
Good luck with the test. If you've finished the case studies and do the test this week then you'll be ahead of the game! If they're back on time we'll prob get next lot next weekend. Back to having the dreaded evidencing then. That's the bit I find takes forever

Re: NVQ3 Module 10
Lotsa laughs Johnep no worries.
Ginny, Sounds like you passed the exam - Well Done! I reckon you should give yourself a big treat now before going back to the slog
Sounds like we are at about the same pace which is good! We can motivate one another when we get to those ahhhhhhhh moments. It is confusing with the exams sometimes. That last exam we did I got one of the questions wrong because it wasnt written in the handbooks as the name I'd memorised. Bet you are relieved you got that out the way now. If you want any help with the case studies- feel free to ask. Obviously I don't know if what i looked up is right yet but its good discuss things sometimes - helps you think about things u might have missed.
The case studies overall seem pretty straightforward- some of the questions you need to research further but thats mainly with advice you would give patients on the medications. Rest of it is pretty much in the book.
Thanks for the good luck with the test - Ill let you know how i get on. Oh yeah we have got the evidence again next module nooooooooooooo
Sure if we keep our heads down wel get there and yeah i agree takes forever.Have you received the timetable yet for this following year? My tutor said she has it one minute, its at home the next, its not been received the next so I'm not sure of the dates for submissions etc.
