Hello hello,
Just a quick intro! I am british but have been overseas in the states and Oz for four years where I worked as a dog groomer and really enjoyed the work, however came back to the Uk almost a year ago. Glad to be home but my career is either nonexistant here or pays terribly. I also think it is time for a change. Have a friend who has worked as a Pharmacy Tech and she piqued my interest! Have been researching more and more and getting more and more excited about it. It has been hard to find a career I think I am interested in but I am really enthused about Pharmacy Tech work. Have worked as a vet tech so have worked with drugs and sterile products a little before and enjoyed it.
Also a total learning / study geek and enthused at the idea of getting qualified.
We are about to move house in the next few weeks and I think I will take the opportunity to gain employment as a Tech. Hoping for hospital but interested in Community too.
I am fairly sure that I will enjoy the work and will be able to pick up the drugs / skills / knowledge fairly quickly but I am a bit worried about my maths. It was never my best subject but I did ok. However since leaving school I have wiped it from my mind! I can't do much without a calculator and you can forget anything advanced. I am just worried this might be a big impact on a possible career. I am about to buy some chemistry and pharmacy books but I am wondering if I need maths books too...
I can certainly use a calculator and if I am using the same math skills daily I will remember them. I am certainy a bit weak though. I am just curious as to how much maths is a deal breaker as a tech?
Would also love to hear inside stories about the work. Can only get so much info online and although I tried to get a look in to the local hospital ,they couldn't for health and safety. What do you do daily? Do you like the work? What do you like best? Least? Are you happy you became a tech?
A long intro! I am just nervous as to the big changes in my future especially as I am trying to make a big jump from animals to (hopefully) Pharmacy work. Concerned about the job market out there. I am sure I will hav many questions in the future...
Thanks everyone.
