Re: nvq level 3 unit 4 health and safety
Hey, how you doing. I am on the next module but happy to help with your health and safety. What you struggling with? It was a tough one with regard to gathering the evidence in relation to the standards etc. Which aspects you need ideas on.When I did that module I started by doing a risk assessment for a week writing down the low, medium and high risks as I went along even things like slippery floor, delivery boxes in the dispensary(with potential to trip colleagues up etc), and once completed I began writing a report about how I did the risk assessment. That risk assessment also highlighted other areas which I could cover in my other reports, things like electrical faults, loose cables near the till or computer, fire door being blocked, the health and safety hazards in relation to dispensing methotrexate etc etc. if you would like any more help feel free to P.M etc- happy to help

Re: nvq level 3 unit 4 health and safety
Hiya, Hows it going? You up to the dreaded health and safety
It is hard to wean in some of the standards but once you get your head around it, its fairly straightforward although I found myself waiting for things to happen to cover some areas. I started mine off by doing a general risk assessment around my pharmacy including asking my colleagues if they saw any risks etc that I may have missed - I am happy to send you my draft if you like and then you can get an idea about how to do your own and what areas may apply in your pharmacy. Following the risk assessment I did a report about how I did it which covers quite a few of the standards in Element 4.1. Within this report I also highlighted what swift action I took about hazards that came up as well such as boxes in the passageways, fire door blockage etc etc. I wrote a couple other reports about risks I had highlighted in my risk assessment but you need to be careful with that as you need evidence to back it up. In terms of covering Element 4.2 which I found a bit harder as it took me a bit to get my head around how to apply the criteria etc but basically I selected four of the ranges and then applied the performance criteria to these. So for instance, we had a false fire alarm because my colleague had burnt the toast in the toaster lol - so I wrote a report about what I did to minimise risks to health and safety and this also highlighted a risk i needed to put right in terms of the fire door being blocked and locked. In terms of range B regards hazardous substances I did a report about how I dispense methotrexate and how I cover h&s in terms of using equipment i.e. triangles specifically for it, cleaning the surface when I dropped a tablet so it wouldn't go elsewhere etc etc, so my colleagues/customers wouldn't come into contact with it etc etc. Just a few ideas, hope it makes sense. If you want any help with anything feel free to PM

Re: nvq level 3 unit 4 health and safety
I'm glad I'm not the only one then.....this unit is enough to make me want to give up
I am well and truly stumped with this unit.
I've got methotrexate, spillage, risk assesment and personal presentation reports, but I've no idea what to do next? I'm not really sure I'm doing any of it right! Any suggestions/ideas gratefully received.
Same old story here, no help from management, they just sign my reports off, don't even read them! Didn't have a clue when I asked about a risk assessment!!

Re: nvq level 3 unit 4 health and safety
Hey Molly,
How u doing? My management didnt have a risk assessment either - soooooooooo helpful lol!
dont give up - you can do it! its a nightmare that unit to start off with but something clicks eventually
I did my own risk assessment and wrote a report on that which helped me think more about what to include in my reports.
Which areas are u needing to cover reports wise now. I did a report about a false fire alarm and highlighted the fire door being blocked and action I took. I did another report on the fridge to cover manufacturers instructions etc - my marker accepted it as covering the requirements. feel free to PM me if u want any more guidance etc - or let us know which standards u are struggling to cover and I will try my best to help. Youl be glad when its finished - i was
