    Smile Pmr

Hi there, I was just wondering if anyone could answer this for me please, How long are patient medication details kept on the PMR for? do they start to drop off after so many years or is all the data kept forever!? and are patients allowed access to there PMR, under supervision?

    thank you

As far as I'm aware pateient records aren't deleted at all. Even if they were they would still be available from back ups which have been made and which are held for up to 5 years.

Patients should have the right to access their records under controlled circumstances. So they would need to prove their identity, pay the appropriate fee for access, and then would be given a printout of the data held about them. They certainly shouldn't be given access to the computer terminals to access this data under any circumstances as it would be easy for them to access another individual's details. I would think that would cover the patient confidentiality requirements and the Access to Information rights that an individual has.
