i have been trying to obtain a trainee position in a pharmacy so i can do my nvq 3 but not one seems to be offering me a job not even unpaid i have applied to all pharmacies in luton, dunstable, milton keynes, heml hempstead and st albans no reply been since may i re-sent letters in july no reply who ever i ask ring they cant some one out there can you help me? i even will fund course myself.
How often do you reply to begging letters of any description. Far better to dress yourself up smart and walk round Bury Park one afternoon. All the pharmacies there could be visited in an hour. Next, to the Arndale and across the road where you have half dozen more. Ask to see the pharmacist and say that you would work unpaid if necessary for a trial period. One problem in Luton is that most are independents and tend to employ family members. However, there is a branch of Lloyds out near Barnesfield. The other alternative is not to write to the pharmacies themselves as they have little power in hiring staff. Contact HO of Boots, Lloyds, Superdrug directly. Just getting the HO address gives you an excuse to visit the pharmacy and make yourself known.
I expect that you are young and will not have access to a car. What you really want is a job at the nearest pharmcy to your home. An unpaid Saturday girl/boy working on the counter would be very attractive. I am afraid that you will have to start as a counter assistant in most cases to get some general experience any way. I had to work on the counter for two years before being allowed in the dispensary.
One last point. You should be aware that a dispenser is now at risk of going to prison if making an error. See Prestatyn case.
Minimum wage?, prison sentence?, never being able to go to America? Who on earth wants a job as a technician these days?

hi have been to a few pharmacy, main have said they are full and can not take more employers on. i have written to superdrug head they did say i can work in the luton superdrug but when i went to see manager/ pharmacy head he said cant take on. lloyds pharmacy promised me a placement then rejected. a major amount of pharmacies owned by asians wont hire or take on i can travel have applied to hemel hempstead, dunstable, milton keynes i just want to complete my nvq 3 the pharmacy i was doing nvq 2 loyds at wigmore closed.
I used to vist that branch regularly, surprised closed down unless nearby surgery moved. Normally lloyds would offer you another position, but they do not have many branches in that area. Here every village has two branches of Lloyds. One in the High St and the other beside the surgery.

Milton Keynes Hospital take on two NVQ 3 students each year round about sept/oct. I believe their training is excellent.
For NVQ 3 training posts, try all the local newspapers for the regions you'd be happy to work in. If I hear of anything, i'll PM you asap.....................
I cannot understand why sensible people so desire to become techs. minimum wage, high pressure work, risk of a crinimal conviction, you really must have a vocation.
