    new pharmacy tech regulations ?

hi , im am wanting to do my pharmacy tech course with boots in the next year or so but im just wondering about these new regulations about having to register with the RPSGB ??

will i have to register to be a pharmacy tech ?
because i wouldent be able to afford that registation fee every year

so does that mean i cant be a pharmacy tech ?
the way i keep reading it on the RPSGB is that i have to register to be a pharmacy tech or i get into trouble

    Hi

You would need to do the course before registering I believe.
Then, as far as fees are concerned, some companies pay the fee, but I don't know what it will be like once registration is compulsory.
If I remember well, registration for technicians will be compulsory in July 2011. That will mean that you will not be considered as a technician unless you are registered.

Have you asked your manager/area manager, they might be able to answer a few of your questions and you might be able to find out more about your company's attitude towards registered technicians.

Definately look into having your registration fees paid by your employer. There is a facility to pay by direct debit but you will need to talk to the society about that. You are correct about it being a lot of money......compared with what we get in return.
But, you will not be able to use the title "Pharmacy Technician" without having the correct qualifications etc........

successfully completed the pharmacy technician course gives you a NVQ Level 3 qualification, this will be a requirement to work in a pharmacy in near future (you need to be registered before 1 July 2011, bear in mind the minimum hours per week you need to work to get that experiences required
    Rpsgb.org: Pharmacy support staff)
, without this qualification means you will not be able to carry out a lot of tasks that would be given to registered technicians (tasks that could be done by pharmacy or dispensing assistants would be limited or restricted by that time) salary might go up for these staff as employers can't afford to let them go (takes a long time to get a new employee to NVQ level 3)
register - you can do more tasks
not register - you can do limited tasks

you can check with your boss, some employers will sponsor you provided you meet their conditions, remember the course standard is getting higher each year and it would be much more difficult and tougher in the future

One of the girls at my pharmacy is leaving for boots, and I am pretty sure they're signing her up and paying her fees to register as a tech.

I work for boots and i am due to finish my nvq 3 in may next year( if i ever get my work finishedthat is! ) it is my understanding that currently you pay for your registration fees t they do reimburse you for it, whethr that'll change in the future i do not know, i certainly hope so as i couldn't afford the registration fee either, fingers crossed our wages go up too!
good luck with your course xx
