Hi, i passed my NVQ3 last year, but does anyone else feel as though they havent learnt anything from it? I am told repeatedly by every pharmacist that i work with that i am the most efficient assistant they have worked with (i have only made around 3 mistakes in two years, touch wood)! Unfortunately while i have the capability to dispense well i still feel as though i am lacking in the knowledge side of pharmacy. I work in a supermarket pharmacy and with all the additional retail side of things to do during the day we dont seem to have time to take anything in. Am i alone in thinking this because sometimes i read comments from technicians saying that they feel as though they know as much as pharmacists! I have alot to offer pharmacists but i could never claim to know anywhere near as much as they do, am i making excuses for being lazy or would i be better looking for a job elsewhere?
Calm down dear. Simply wait to new BNF comes out and take the old one. When you dispense a med you know nothing about, look it up in the BNF and read the preamble before each group of meds. You wil soon have a good understanding.
