its the same in hospital we have a responsible pharmacist in the dispensary plus one for the whole department. I can work alone but say I need to order an item to be sent to the ward it must have had a clinical check by a pharmacist, same for take home
me dicines same for stock items. It is not always practical to have a pharmacist actuallly physically present but they still have overall control of what I am allowed to do. Its the same in community if the pharmacist has to leave the premises, they still have responsibility whilst out . Its down to good training and respect for each other job roles.

AFAIK, the *new* RP regulations only apply to hospitals in specific circumstances. I do understand what you are saying though.

It's obvious that you take your responsibilities very seriously... and I'm sure that the pharmacists who you work with have a lot of respect for you.

Nobody plans to make an error. I am one of those (community) locums you commented on, who are unhappy delegating to an ACT. I come in and don't know anyone - I would have more " respect for job roles" if I was not told that I would be summonned to a Statutory Committee hearing if the ACT made a mistake on my watch. This predates the RP regulations and needs changing. If ACTs carried their own insurance or I could be assured that the employer's insurance would cover it without involving me (unless I was involved of course) then I would welcome the employment of ACTs.

how does this compare to ordinary dispensers rate at boots ?

Depends on what level they are, how long they have worked for the company etc. I've completed my Dispensary Assistants Course, and am doing my NVQ3, and have worked in the company for 2 and half years, and am currently on just under £8.50/hr. Also depends on the area as some stores get London weighting. The ACTs I work with at the moment said the pay difference between a Registered Technician and an ACT doesnt reflect the additional responsibility- but that it their opinion!

as a dispenser i have more trust in our act than locum phamacists when ours has a day off! some our texting or on facebook most of the day whilst we slave and even have to bag up for them
