Isolated areas can also include a 'specials shelf' where you might keep particular brands in stock for certain patients. NPA confirmed this one was ok for me to use.

For the workplace policies I used a shredder machine - the manf instructions said empty after every use and oil the blades and we have no policy in place to do this.

    Hope this helps x

Yes it is. If you have completed the DAC course, you should get an NVQ 2 certificate.

    Re: nvq 3

Hey all, hope you all had a great Easter?
hows everyone getting on with their courses with the nvq3 course. These deadlines come around far too quick
me and my colleague have fallen slightly behind with ours so playing catch up at the moment.
Regards unit 2 (stock control) how did people get on integrating the K standard for the COSHH requirements in terms or storage, disposal and issuing etc.
I am aware of how to do the above and don't need it clarifying or anything, just not sure how to integrate it into at least one of the standards we have without making it up
In our pharmacy we don't deal with anything that falls under these regulations other than the obvious methotrexate. However we don't keep this stock isolated which would enable me to make a link between some or at least one of the ranges and COSHH in my reports. Also the stock we do have is nowhere near its sell by date so I can't wean it in that way either unless I tell a white lie but ideally would like to use something concrete.
I have already covered the ranges in terms of isolated stock with pallative care as a means of getting around the COSHH guidelines so thats fine however the K standards require me to cover COSHH in at least one report.
Would this be one of them times I am going to have to get my manager to write me a pharmacy question to meet the criteria. I was trying to avoid this as its difficult even getting them to sign my reports at times.
Where is everyone up to with their courses now and how are you all finding it?
    Thanks in advance

Hi.....why don't you isolate the Methotrexate and do an evidence thing on it. Good practice means making a spot just for the cyto stuff anyway. Mine is in a red basket with CYTO tape round it, along with gloves, an sop and it's own tab counting tray....just an idea...

I had to have a Pharmacists assessment on that!
The arrangment I have with my Pharmacist is that I find a suitable question, write it on a post-it note, write the answer on the assesment form, then when I manage to pin my Pharmacist down for long enough, she copies the question onto the assessment form and signs it at the bottom!
