    Re: Nvq 3

Hi there, I am currently on the new style NVQ 3 which is made up of units and modules, the Modules have been a REAL struggle as some of the questions can have loads of answers but they may only want you to list 3 and it never seems to be the ones I choose ! for example if anyone can help me with this one...the question is list 3 main causes/triggers of osteoporosis ?. my first answers were 1.menopause. 2. genetics/family history. 3. daily diet deficent in vitamin d /calcium. this was a fail so I provided my resubmission saying 1.long term corticosteroids 2. early menopause and family history of osteoporosis 3. dietry factors, low body weight, low calcium, smoking and excess alchol. again it was marked with a "fail" because I have omitted to say what chemical imbalance causes this. Can anyone help me ?please ? It is so, so frustating trying to think what answers they are looking for as there are many possible. I have 2 more units and 2 more modules to submit and that will be me , but by the way things have gone so far I will probably be re submitting them for ages until they are right !thanks for any help on this

    Hi Blue
Sorry to hear what's happening with you and your course. It seems to be the norm with NVQ students working in Community Pharmacy. I trained in hospital and although this had it's own problems, I had good support and regular study time.
The only advice I can give you is to keep at it. It is worth all the hassle. Having the NVQ 3 can lead to so many different things that without it , you would not be able to do. I know that you may be able to get an extension if you contact the course provider which will give you a bit more time to finish. And maybe you can have a serious sit down chat with your pharmacist and sort something out as having a qualified Pharmacy Technician at their branch can only benefit them!!!!!

Keep plugging away at it Blue. Are you working for a large multiple or an independant???????

Dont give up, I feel the same. We have no manager and I have to rely on locum pharmaicsts to help. Its hard to find the time but keep on going, your not on your own.

I can't believe the hassle and difficulties you guys are encountering in trying to do the NVQ 3. I had loads of support and still struggled getting through it so I don't know how you are all managing. But, you are getting through it despite the issues and you will soon be qualified. The two years passes so quickly and it's worth it. Don't give up.......

In reply to the stress levels experienced by fellow members, I once had a letter I wrote on my computer telling my boss and area boss how depressed the job and the course were making me and how neglected I felt, In the end I left it one more day before handing it in and things have been good since. Its a funny old game. I just try to stay positive and push on with my work. It is difficult, I sympathise. I know everybody wants me to be a sucsess, and that spurs me on a lot.
