Question NVQ 3 HELP please.... (human & animal scripts)

Can anyone help me out please????

I am stuck on UNIT 1.1 (J) ...... COSTING OF PRIVATE PRESCRIPTIONS INCLUDING VAT: You must provide evidence that you are able to correctly price private prescriptions and understand the difference in costing those that are written by a General Practitioner and a Vetinary Practitioner.

Am I right in thinking that the difference is possibly that no VAT is charged on GP private scripts, but is probably charged on a Vet private script?
Since starting my course I have not been in contact with any Vet scripts.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

    Kind Regards
    Stephanie

A GP medical script is exempt from VAT.
Things like blood glucose meters are also exempt from VAT.
There should be a zero VAT button on your till.
Vet scripts are subject to VAT.

    Generally GP scripts
Cost of drugs (either trade or DT price)
+ around 50% mark up (though this varies from 20% upwards)
+ extra fee if CD or if has to be ordered specially and incurs P&P charge.
Minimum fee (around £4.50) may apply

Vet scripts as above but add VAT to the final amount.

    No problems.
I've I've tutored many technicians through their NVQs. I am as dissapointed as they are when they get a B not an A for modules!
