Alchemist

Thanks for the info and your input. I personally don't really want to work any closer with Dr's, but your description of what you have studied and why will be useful, I'm sure, to a lot of readers.

Thanks again

You may be right, but I hope not! If thats the way it has to be, then thats the way it has to be! I guess we'll just have to wait.

Hi and welcome Gemma

I can't see any reason you shouldn't see it through. I know a guy who did the same as you and ended up getting a 1st class honours degree.

Good luck with your studies, and check out the student section for more students like yourself.

Default pharmacy qualifications

As the oldest pharmacist on this list I can remember being told that there were too many pharmacists in the 20s and 30s because at that time the course was as little as nine months, after a four year apprenticeship.

There were two stages to the exam 'the minor' and 'major'.

When I started in pharmacy there were three exams,

C&D Chemist and Druggist

Ph.C Pharmaceutical Chemist

B.Pharm

The C&D was replaced by the Ph.C and I planned to study for this but could not get a grant from the local authority for a 'diploma' exam. So I studied for B.Pharm which was an honours degree.

Our dean, Prof Linnell, told us that the Ph.C was for those entering retail whereas us graduates were expected to follow careers in industry, research or academia.

I took the Ph.C after a couple of years and this made my time studying for B.Pharm much more comfortable. (£20/week for a locum in those days).

My grant was £90/year.

I tend to agree with you alchemist, although one can often feel dispondant as we do spend time juggling different aspects of our jobs.

I think like many things you get out of pharmacy what you put in to it. There are more and more opportunities for us to take advantage of, especially with the endorsements of MURs. Sometimes one has to just get stuck in and talk with the customers and gps to show how we can make a difference.

I give prescribing advice half a day a week and I really enjoy it. Having a good relationship with the prescriber is often key building trust etc.
