If you live anywhere near one of the pharmacy schools or special manufacturers I would contact them. I've certainly had more than 1 dispenser go along to see how extemps are done.

When timing etc did not allow we did as others have suggested and made up some scripts and wrote off a few "cheap" items

I am finding it very interesting but a lot more time consuming than I thought it would be. I'm having to do a lot of it at home, but I can handle that

I agree it is very time consuming. Which unit/module are you currently doing?

I've only just started so I'm on module 6 and unit 4. I'm doing the NPA course and I was told that this year is the first year they've had the work books and portfolio running at the same time. I got module 5 and unit 10 back earlier this week and was very happy with the result

I have completed the nv3 and am now registered. With your reports you need to write in as much detail as possible even thought it may seem longwinded as you can start cross references the further you go along your course. With an extemp. prep if you have never made one up a pharmacist can give you a pharmacist assessment however, it is just like making a cake. The easiest prouducts to use would be white soft paraffin and eumovate, calculate what you need and ask the pharmacist how they would do it as they would have covered this in their training.

Element 4 does require 3 reports to cover a, b and f. If you do not do any extemp. preparations, your pharmacist can set you examples to do as a simulation. Stating that Alliance policy says to send extemp. prepared items to the lab. will not cover this element.

Apart from the antibiotic the other 2 are going to have to be simulations. I don't understand how I can write about how I make something up when I have no idea how it's made up in the first place.

For the antibiotic all I've got is a couple of lines, hardly a report. I'm not sure whether that is going to be enough.

In the guidance pack it gives examples of dilutions such as rosewater, peppermint water or chloroform water from concentrate. I haven't a clue as to how they are diluted, I've never even seen these products
