    Pharmacists possibly meeting the PM

    Dear all,

Having read this article Pharmacists call for meeting with PM to discuss reforms | PJ Online I was thinking it is about time!

However considering all the negativity people on this forum express about pharmacy, what good will be said to the PM regarding pharmacy/pharmacists?

    What are our selling points?

Lol! That is technically a selling point, but what seperates us from other health care practitioners?

Because we do more and more for less and less we may well clean up on all the new contracts and services on offer.

^ Good one. I feel there should be more awareness of the role of pharmacy. Public and other health care practitioners perception is not so great.

What separates us from other health care professionals, well we are ordered by a bunch of tools as in managements and multiples! (joking couldnt help myself)

I think the best way of selling ourselves is by BBC/ITV doing a tv documentary on community pharmacy, because I was watching junior doctors the other day and you feel for these people because you see stuff from their prespective, imagine if someone did that pharmacy then people would start appreciate us! We can say we do this and do that! But if we show what we do for a living that is the way we can show what pharmacists have to offer!

If many minds working together on this forum cannot think of advantageous selling points, what will happen if this meeting does that place :s

On the myriad long and arduous train journeys I make to university, I was thinking exactaly this. I want to star in it! I can take the pre-reg role since (hopefully) I will be starting this summer.

Unfortunately if something like this did take place it would have to be in an independent because multiples would use it as a means of free advertisement of MURs and crap clinical service they offer, rather than show what community pharmacy is about! But I think that is definitely way to go, I am not boasting but I probably make one or two major intervention a day which patients don't know but would be disaster if not picked up but it has become a routine that I never congratulate myself for picking it up and hence I never even pay attention to it, the only things that plagues me is if i missed anything. So the only way forward is having a documentary done following community pharmacist in their job! A pre-reg is important but in reality its the pharmacist is the engine within a pharmacy so the documentary would have to focus on the pharmacist! If you look at junior doctors the members are qualified doctors who are responsible for their patients whilst as a pre-reg I had responsibility the final buck always stopped with the pharmacist so even if I did something wrong it would have been my tutor who would have been held accountable not me.
