Boots urges students not to be put off pharmacy - Chemist + Druggist
Thought I'd share this with you.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
What do you want?;..................
That's fabulous, isn't it. I mean, it isn't as if its in their interests, or anything: more graduates applying for jobs means more money to pay in salaries, of course, and just when it was beginning to get easier to get staff with the new universities coming on stream. Mind you, Boots are by no no no means the worst company to work for out there. But they aren't there for the good of our health, either.
And Boots' responsibility for helping to create the rather desolate landscape - grinding hard work, little responsibility or respect outside of being made legally accountable for everything that occurs, and fairly meagre remuneration for the work done - that is community pharmacy in the UK and Eire is glossed over, somewhat.
I'm sure all the companies are cursing the hike in tuition fees. We can't blame any of them for that!! Just for a good piece of the lessened attract-ability of a career in pharmacy, when the thought of a four year large debt will certainly go towards putting some off.
One last thing, the article title is VERY bad psychology. The unconscious reaction to it will be that students should be persuaded to be put off pharmacy. Its something to do with the primitive areas of the mind not coping with double negatives, so using "not" together with a negative message does not create a positive message, but a subliminally negative one. And the good pharmacists are, at our best, a fairly cautious bunch of forward planners and trouble shooters.
....just my opinion
cool comments!
but didn't boots shoot themselves in the foot by only taking on pre reg students who had done a summer placement in 3rd year uni....
but going off some peoples thoughts on pharmacy on this forum, i don't think the hike in fees would be worthy of pursuing a career in pharmacy..everyone seems to feel limited in their roles as pharmacists!
I would do everything in my power to dissuade potential pharmacy students from entering into this so-called "profession".
Oh dear...
