    Jobs in the Future

It has been reported that there will be three times the number of Pharmacists in 2013, as there is currently. This will be mainly due to an influx from other EU countries and an increase in the number of Schools of Pharmacy opening up in Britain. With the situation really bad in Ireland, is anybody else of the opinion that the profession in terms of the availability of jobs in the British Isles, is doomed? As a Locum, I am particularly worried by this development and would like to know are other Locums aware of what the future potentially holds?

it may occur. But 3 times seems a bit extreme. If things do start to go rough get a permanent job or switch career, remain on the register until things correct themselves. Applications for pharmacy will go down again just like when their was a lack of training places for foundation occurs.

Or get another qualification why u can i.e. chiropody or a partime batchelors, an accountant exam.

Don't be too proud, there will always be some kind of work for willing people no matter what.
Stay on the register whatever happens, and get occasional 'unsocial work', to escape the GPhC 2 year rule.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

Oh dont worry im not to proud, i have done all sorts of jobs from the age of 14. From cleaning up after farm animals to my current position in tecos pharmacy. However i have managed to find satisfaction in all forms of work. But i dont think with a certain degree of education you want to meet a certain standard of living.

    That's a good approach.
Let's hope that we don't have to resort to our fall-back options.

Had our branch pre reg welcome meeting today. Had a chat to an Irish pharmacist who actually studied at Sunderland. He was surprised how knowledgeable I was re Irish affairs, I told him thanks to this forum.

I think you should take a little more of the credit. You obviously have an interest that isn't just local so you take the trouble to read the contributions on Irish affairs.

It really breaks my heart that so many of our bright young Irish pharmacists are in the UK. If they want to go there for more experience that's fine but if they have been forced out of their own country then we must feel disappointed.
