    Oxygen deliveries

I can't remember ever reading a story like this when pharmacists were involved in oxygen supply.

Pensioner died fighting for breath after company contracted to supply her with oxygen 'told her to wait 48 hours' | Mail Online

Heads should roll, but they won't!

Graham Morris : Glad I'm retired!

It used to go something like this...
"Hello, my oxygen is running out".
"Right, I'll send one out in a taxi with someone to change it"
Delivered changed and green form signed by patient.
    Script arranged with GP
    Everyone happy.

Although remeber this is reported in the Daily Mail.

Paramedics in attendance = plenty of O2 available, so unlikely to be cause of death

Died surrounded by 14 empty bottles = well, I doubt she got through those in 48 hours, especially with a concentrator in use too, so when did they try and re-order? Years of working with O2 and patients would suggest that, after using 13.5 cylinders, they rang on Friday afternoon for more..... although, as mentioned above, community pharmacy would almost certainly have delivered; unlikely she'd have had more than maybe 3 or 4 at a time tho so it'd be more regular...

I think an argument could be made that if she had had regular contact with her community pharmacist the chances are this wouldn't have happened. 13 cylinders?! There's no way we would have let that situation arise.
    ....just my opinion

I've heard on the grap vine that one of the major retailers may be bidding next year for a home oxygen contract. Has anybody else heard anything?
