Crux is that 'RP will not make much difference'. Then why have another piece of legislation which is unecessary. Or is it just a case of creating jobs for the boys?

This week's PJ (5 September) has an interview with Bob Nicholls, chairman designate of the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
What do you want?;..................
Today was admonished for not doing owings correctly. At this pharmacy they put the script through and just put a bag label on a bag in the box file.
I thought there was a ruling that scripts should stay with the item until handed out. no time to read the SOPs. Any comments?

Hi Johnep
I am getting cross with some pharmacies over this as well. And surprise surprise, althought the same chain, one pharmacy pin the Rx to the owing, other does not.
SOP says Rx to stay 'available for inspection' (which can mean anything) in the p'cy until the owing leaves premises. As long as I am deemed responsible for what goes out I want to see the script.
Bring on RP, that will be the first SOP I will amend![]()
John, i am working in one of the prescription factories, 12000 items/month, one pharmacist. trust me if we have time, we would do everything properly!
on Camposs, if you need to create an owing, you have to undo, and re-enter again and create an owing. works well if you have time to do that. i find an easy way around it; just staple the label for the remaining quantity owned to the script, put the script in the ' owing scripts' box, and inform staff to tell patients to call back next day mentioning' can i collect MY OWING' so we know where to check 1st for the scripts. keeps area manager away, and no record of owing on computer, so no bullying from those out of touch area managers.
i dont like to do it this way, but with the current resources, i am happy with it this way.
The incident was regarding completed owings. This branch instructs that the script is filed away and item put on shelf with just a bag label in the box for shelf reference. At end of month, script would not be available for any queries as been sent for pricing.

I'm with you Johnep - that is totally unprofessional - the script should always be with the item in question until all items provided - irrespective of whether there is a rule or not, I think it is basic common sense to have Rx with item - even if its an owing. I remember Rowlands used to photocopy each owing script and put the original through. The only reason the pharmacy are doing this is for £££ - ie get money quicker from NHS.
Message to everyone!! --- see the response that Jeremy Holmes has put on PJonline ( Gowan has put the link above) and please reply to it online - HE needs to know how we take his unqualified purely incorrect and ignorant writings.
