    OTC Tamsulosin?

I read this week in the PJ about tamsulosin becoming available OTC but does anyone really think it will be popular as I can't see anyone choosing to buy it. We hardly sell any simvastatin and I would consider that to be a condition that people are more likely to self treat.

    Why not?

So you believe the public are more likely to pay to treat a condition with no symptoms than one with symptoms.

I suspect the level of demand will depend on the advertising.

It will probably cost more than a prescription charge for one thing especially due to all the costs of training packages, etc.

I believe supplying OC via PGD is going to be popular and and very time demanding!

And I believe that a pharmacy representative body with an interest in patients should be pressing for the supply of free condoms from pharmacies.
Why shouldn't pharmacy try and fit in with the governments advertising.

    Absolutely.

Also, the OTC simvastatin lesson is that patients are prepared to pay. I am absolutely sure that Tamsulosin will be a successful Pee medicine! (I read that elsewhere so can't take the credit)

Are they? I've never sold one pack since it became available, had plenty of enquiries but when the cost was mentioned, off to GP they went. Eventually stock went out of date

I refuse to stock it because I think it's indication and strength amount to dodgy science. However I have colleagues who, at the last count, did sell it.
