Often if a patient is stable on methadone and manage to get a job they want to stay with the same pharmacy, even if it isn't near where they work, and the last thing they want is for somebody they work with to see them going to a pharmacy every day. It would not take people long to figure it out and there is still a lot of prejudice out there, so they get it picked up for them.
I have to agree here. We only deal with a handful of methadone patients but I'd never dream of giving one of them another patient's methadone. We have one who's mother comes to collect on his behalf but another addict...I'd be very unhappy about doing that and it's something I'd make very clear to the patients' key worker(s). And although I understand the issues surrounding those patients that are working from my experience they're usually trusted enough to collect on a weekly basis but then as I said I don't really deal with that many so other places might be different.
