The pharmacy tech course (NVQ3) is predominantly a distance learning course. Modules and evidence have to be posted off at regular intervals. The ACT course normally involves checking 1000+ items which are all double checked by the pharmacist. A single serious mistake would lead to a fail, a couple of very small errors are permitted eg. having a patient labelled as Miss rather than Mrs.
A final checking exam is then scheduled once the 1000+ items have been correctly checked at work.

Very interesting reading for a 3rd year aspiring pharmacist, I must say. It just annoys me this whole aspect of being responsible for the damned incompetence of other pharmacy staff! And I know it's a bit of a cliched line, but I gotta say it - it's just not fair![]()
Now become case history establishing that cos can hide behind the SOP and put all the blame on the pharmacist. Also establishes that techs have a legal responsibility.

being a tutor put digoxin and litium on the table and say: look, you pick up the wrong strength and the patients dies, make sure not to double check but check what you pick up from the shelf THREE times, also i brief the staff from time to time. and yet slow down a bit when get a script for the above.
better to be safe than sorry
