Hope you are ok Caz. As everyone has said, no one is immune from making errors. I made one last week and I looked into why I made the error, filled in the log and told the other staff about it. Hopefully i'll never make the same/similar mistake again.

This happens to all pharmacists. We are expected to be 100% accurate all the time in less than perfect circumstances. It is a criminal offence to make an error against the medicines act.
A little peace of mine comes from having your own indemnity insurance from a company that will support you for being human.
    Ranting on here also helps.

I'm not sure that it is a criminal offence to make a prescribing error.
Negligence, duty of care etc may apply to a prescribing error but the GMC will always back up a well behaved doctor who makes a one off cock-up. The RPSGB simply strikes off a good pharmacist as any error brings the profession into disrepute.

Exactly. GP prescribes incorrectly..pharmacist dispenses correctly (according to prescription). Goes to court.. GP receives wrist-slap..pharmacist struck-off by their own 'governing body'. Welcome to the club.

What about the "bloodgate" scandal there recently? Surely the GP's integrity and fitness to practise have to be called into question there. It's one of many cases though.....it seems the GMC will defend Doctors to the hilt, whereas Pharmacists are hung out to dry.

Might change after the regulatory split?
If the leopard can change its spots?
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.

Ah yes but there was something important at stake there -the result of a rubgy match.
Have you ever seen that sort of fuss about patients being harmed?
Tells you a lot about priorities.
