    Looks like a maze puzzle.

No patient data is in the 3D barcode.

Its pack, size, strength, manufacturer, batch, expiry and other manufacturer related info.
Could be used to identify machines and distrubutors etc.

Its a way of storing a lot more info than a barcode.

    Sounds good.
I'll print that one out and see if our scanner can make sense of it.
It didn't like my striped shirt the other day!

You will need a new scanner!
The new 3D scanners can scan the old stripy bar codes though

Should be one around here somewhere.

Anyway, why do all the pharmacies I work in keep the scanner next to the computer?
Scanning the barcode when you are handed the script, then putting it on the bottom of the pile would make more sense, rather than leaving it on the pile of scripts until it gets to the top, then scanning it? Most of the staff think I'm crazy for even suggesting that!
Still, I suppose having a minute or two break between each script can't be that bad.

When I ran independents we had the scanner on the counter - as long as it went beep it had scanned. This was in the early days of pharmacy manager.
The analyst system has this sussed - using the same terminal & scanner for EPOS on the counter to scan incoming scripts.
Its the multiples that are short sighted and haven't thought this through.

For EPSr2 the scripts will just come into the dispensing queue so the scanning won't be an issue.

In EPSr2 I thought there would still be prescribing tokens, and that we would print dispensing tokens for patient to sign.
Will check the blurb at CfH.

Dispensing tokens are nice move - saves they surgery staff loads of time handling paper etc.

P and Q follow each other so possibility of being in same drawer. 2 qds of quinine would certainly cause problems. Another accident waiting to happen?

I understand that economy demands not too many colours, but different schemes for products likely to be stored close together should surely be easy to achieve.

...........and the new packs of TEVA baclofen tabs have exactly the same colour scheme as their simvastatin 20mg tabs.
