Seriously though, I check my balance every week and only use one conical measure for Methadone (all measured out on the morning of supply). We always have overage, so no need to worry.

Check the posting on "electronic controlled drugs register" for solution. few interesting discussion for you to see. The new ECDR has functions for adjusting overage/underages.

I suppose its just possible that your measure is not measuring accurately: there must be the odd one out there? Ans I've known staff wash them in very hot water -- over years it must make a difference. If you still have a set of scales, try measuring 100g or whatever of water and see how you go.

after checking and you have made all the necessary entry, you can suspect overage or lower, it is accpetable if it within +/-6% eg
8 bottle 500ml used total quantity 4000mls
+/- 6% would be +/- 240mls
as long as u have checked and it is within this limit then u can record it

+ OR - 6% seems a widely used "standard"
One pharmacy I work in has been told to record the actual volume received !!
what a nightmare, and I have not been given a rational reason why.
If you want to pay your mortgage quicker get a paper round as the street value of methadone is £10 per 100ml (so I've been told)
