    Charter vote

I'm suprised no-one's running a thread here as there's been lots on Locumvoice and Private-Rx (or maybe that's why?!) but I'm going to open one here on the off chance of reaching a few that haven't seen the others.

I'm just going to ask everyone if they feel comfortable with the way we have been blitzed with "vote yes" propaganda.... articles in the PJ, adverts in the C&D, websites for the NPB as if it's a done thing, bulk emails from the Society's address book.... little or none of which has been balanced with the views of anyone who doesn't think a "yes" would be the best thing since sliced bread. Remember the "Big Lie".....

    Re: Charter vote

The SOS campaigners spent very large sums of their own money a few years ago to secure present charter.

If we vote yes, we vote for nominated representatives rather than elected ones and that means domination by CCA etc.

Vote yes if you want them to represent 'pharmacy' as envisaged by CCA.
Vote NO if you want them to represent pharmacists, you and me.

Well, I've thought about it a few times, but as I have little interest in joining the npb while it has a charter I thought I'd leave it. All the charter has done IMO is to ensure that the RPSGP is under the thumb of the Queen (which might not be so bad) but the privvy council she delegates it to have done pharmacy no favours.

Yes, its very unclear to me what will happen if we vote "No." If "No means the charter gets dropped altogether, then lets vote "No."
    ....just my opinion

I don't get it. Why vote at all? Voting only gives credence to the NPB as a representative body. It implies that pharmacists want the NPB to represent us.

    I don't.

Why should I vote for the charter of a body I wont be joining?

Would you suggest the the people of Iran should not have voted?
People have died that you may have the right to vote.
    Vote NO.

If all you are allowed to vote for is a party that supports the religious state and that is not what you want to support - why vote for it? It allows the religious leaders to say that everyone who voted voted for a religious state.

Similarly, voting for or against the Charter of a NPB that carries the carries on the tradition of the RPSGB allows the NPB to say that everyone who voted wants a NPB that carries on the traditions of the RPSGB.

    I don't.

Mass abstention is the ONLY way to show that we aren't interested in or represented by this NPB.

    Re: Charter vote

The advert in the PJ telling us why we should all vote 'Yes' didn't actually bother to say what the changes are or why they are necessary but was just full of cliches about 'securing the future of pharmacy' etc etc! Really annoyed me that we are being treated like idiots - makes me more likely to vote 'No' or not vote at all!

Because you are a member now. Difficult to predict the future: easier to vote for what you want.

Mass abstention will be viewed as apathy. Is that what you mean? Somehow I doubt it. A "No" vote would do what you want much more effectively.

I can conceive of a set of circumstances under which I would join the npb. No charter to give the privvy council undue influence, representative of pharmacy, able to bring all pharmacists together with the various agendas. A voice of and for all pharmacists.

A vote that is not used is a crime against democracy.

Can anyone summarise the issue in a short paragraph.
I'm up to here (points over head) with all this stuff at the moment having tried to digest all this Responsible Pharmacist stuff.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................
