    GPharmC Domain name

The Government intends to remove regulation from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and give it to a newly-created General Pharmaceutical Council (GPharmC).

What do people think the new body should have as it's domain name?

    Any good ideas?

    Personally I like this: -

    www.generalpharmaceuticalcouncil.com

    or

    www.gpharmc.com

or use both, linked, for best results. Do you think they have thought of that yet?

I'm just thinking that if you want to look for the Dr's genreal medical council, type that in .com and you've got it.

    www.generalmedicalcouncil.com

Do you think us as pharmacists (or rather our society) has even considered the domain names yet?

You reckon they could do a hostile takeover of www.gphc.org.uk ?

No you can't do a hostile takeover of a domain name - all you can do is offer to buy it and hope you can afford the asking price, and GPHC.org is used as Greater Park Hill Community inc. Besides the short name is GPharmC which does read a lot better.

They should have picked one of these, but as usual with the .org gone as well they are all taken up: -

    GENERALPHARMACEUTICALCOUNCIL.COM GENERALPHARMACEUTICALCOUNCIL.INFO GENERALPHARMACEUTICALCOUNCIL.NET
    GENERALPHARMACEUTICALCOUNCILUK.COM GENERALPHARMACEUTICALCOUNCILUK.INFO GENERALPHARMACEUTICALCOUNCILUK.NET
    GENERALPHARMACEUTICALCOUNCILUK.ORG

    GPharmC.COM
    GPharmC.INFO
    GPharmC.NET

It will end up having all sorts of dots and dashes in it. The best are (IMO): -

    GPharmC.COM

    GeneralPharmaceuticalLCouncil.COM

They should offer the owner about five grand for each one, before the price goes up! The .org has adverts all over it - looks great for us hey! No, it looks crap. I hate to think what the owner of that one would want for it - or both if owned by the same person.

People will automatically type in .com first, then maybe .org because the society is a .org GPharmC.org and GeneralMedicalCouncil.org are both just advert sites. They should have purchased the .org .com and .net domains ages ago. For Google rankings .com and .net are the best I think.

How does it look for pharmacy if the owners of the above domains put up a copycat site that leads straight to an on-line pharmacy in Mexico for example? It doesn't look good for us does it? It makes us look like a bunch of amateurs. How many people remember domain names with things like "the-puk.org" or whatever. You'd look for puk.com first - just a silly example but you get my drift I'm sure.

    Just my opinion, as usual......

    Elaine..

I have read this thread with interest. You've picked up on a cracker here..A brand-new regulatory body for UK pharmacy-the flags will fly, and the firework display will take place, yet no-one can find the bloody thing on the net. (Unless they juggle capital letters, cases, com, org, .co.uk etc.

The new domain name will no doubt be published in due course...do you know if they've tried to register one yet?

    My effort...cLoWnSrUs(Pharm).whatever..
