Good morning everyone, I came across this site while researching a project an would would welcome any feedback or help.
I am currently working for one of the major UK fiance companies on the asset division and am looking at the use of commercial vehicles within different industry sectors. I am not here looking to sell anything but if anyone did want any help I would be happy to point them in the right direction.
The sort of information I was looking for was details on how commercial vehicles are used within the Pharmacy network details such as:-
Number of vehicles operated
Type of vehicles used
What are the vehicles is mainly used for
Any extras fitted to the vehicles such as additional security, internal racking, navigation / communication equipment and so on.
How many miles a year does the vehicle cover
How the vehicle(s) are acquired - purchased, rented, leased.
Also any other information regarding issues faced with running a fleet, problems faced, and any other information regarding your fleet.
The reason for this information is as a company we are looking at ways we can work with certain industry types to tailor a bespoke commercial vehicle offering. This can only be done with a better understanding of the industry.
I am happy for replies to be posted on here, sent as a PM or could be sent to my email address.
Most pharmacies have one vehicle or less. More often a vehicle is shared across a few local pharmacies owned by the same company. The NHS do not pay for a delivery service so pharmacies stand the cost.
I've seen everything from
Using the owners company car
Using the owners company van
Using the owners company 4x4 van
Company owns an older car or two.
Driver owned and mileage cost paid
Leasing (rare)
Taxis
Pharmacist delivering on their way home for no additional renumeration
No additional security usually - no need.
A good local driver is far better than any satnav - My best driver planned his route based on left turns and avoiding roundabouts. He could do 50 deliveries in 4 hours and cover less than 20 miles.
Coms? A PAYG phone usually.
After 20 years in a range of pharmacies If I was a fleet manager I wouldn't even look at pharmacies - no money here.
But happy to discuss my experiences PM me.
