Most of the interview was the standard questions about why I wanted to go there and why I felt I was well suited for it. As for specific questions for practice, I got handed a cardex with a few drugs on it. Nothing too challenging, biggest thing was augmentin with a penicillin allergy and diclofenac and warfarin. They were mostly looking for pharm care discussions about that and the hypertension meds they were on.
I was given a few scenarios:
- One was about how to deal with a pre-reg not working up to an appropriate standard and how I would deal with that.
- Prep work I would do before starting a rotation on a new ward (they mentioned cardiac specifically but it was a general question)
- Medicines info call from a doctor prescribing an antibiotic for a UTI in pregnancy
- A prioritisation question involving a CD discrepancy on a ward, a consultant wanting info on off licence use on a cardiac med and an ambulance waiter.
With regards to that last one, when I discussed it later they mentioned that ideally I would have referred the ward CD issue to the ward pharmacist as it's their responsibility. I would have taken some basic details off the consultant and to go back to their issue later or refer to the appropriate specialist in the pharmacy if required but that the ambulance had priority. I mostly got that question right but one thing the pharmacist said stuck with me; it was a test to see if I could refer appropriately and take appropriate information to inform the correct person, rather than attempting to get it all myself.
Also, I found the medicines info sheet that I was after. It's at UKMi National Medicines Information - UKMI*Activities*Clinical*Governance and it's one of the word documents at the bottom!
