newly qualified pharmacist offered full-time job in 100+ hour pharmacy in Lambeth.

    Hi,
I've just passed my pre-reg exam and I've been offered a job in the large independent pharmacy where I worked as a pre-reg. I've a few questions if anyone would care to answer them for me:

    1) I have been told that they would sort out pay with me and its negotiable. I guess this means I'll be offered as little as they can get away with. What is the minimum I should ask for? or aim to get? without sounding arrogant. I realise I've no actual experience as a proper pharmacist and I'm also wondering how people can say £x is the going rate, when I see the difference between me and my tutor who has been qualified since 1995 and is excellent at the job. Surely he will be on a higher wage due to his experience?

2)Which courses should I have completed before i start: i.e EHC (to be able to dispense the pill free of charge), course to be able to carry out MUR's, minor ailments, etc and where would be the best place to do them? I realise that some of these courses are only applicable to the borough of Lambeth and I would not be able to transfer across to another borough and perform the same activity without doing another course (i.e in the case of the minor ailments scheme). As a result I'm wondering if there is a place which covers all these topics for the Lambeth area?
Where would be a good place to find out about these accreditation courses as regards Lambeth?

    1) Yes you tutor will be on a higher wage BUT you now carry the can and may be down the road defending your registration. Minimum £19 per hour and get some PDA insurance.
    2) Like johnep says - depends on PCT and what services they are funding. Also depends on what your employer will give you in return for these services.

You could be on a higher hourly rate if you end up covering all the unsociable hours....

Get all the accreditations as you go. You can't be expected to have them all straight away; you often have to wait for the PCT to run a training course.

Not IF but WHEN you end up working Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. I think it is better to have a premium rate for late nights, weekends and bank holidays than a higher hourly rate. At least then it is easier to get people willing to work them.
Same applies to overtime. Time and a half now, not a day in lieu sometime.
