Just a question about what to do if someone eg security of the store or member of public hands you over the pharmacy counter a needle/syringe found either in store or outside...
Someone who has had their shots should handle it, so no new members of staff should be involved! Also you need to have a sharps disposal contract with the company which collects your waste medication. The needle/syringe would have to go into a contaminated sharps bin unless you are confident the needle hasn't been used. (to be on the safe side I'd assume it has!)
I'd check your dispensaries SOP's though as everywhere varies slightly, and if you are still not sure contact your local authority.
We have to have separate sharps bins for our needle exchange clients and pharmacy sharps waste. But yeah you'd have to ask them if they'd be willing to dispose of that for you.
