Re: As a pharmacy student am I experienced enough to be a dispenser?
From what I gather the title of 'technician' (including Phramcy technician, Dispensing Techncian or accredtited checking technician), is protected by registration and only available to NVQ3 or equiv. and not NVQ2 which is a dispenser or dispensing assistant and the GPhC state that an NVQ2 qualified person can't now work as a checking technician. The roles may be the same in the dispensary for a dispenser and techncian and are not defined by the GPhC but the training and qualifacations are and that should define who is who is in the dispensary, title wise. So as of now an undergrad can't be a Technician or checking tech due to registration issues but can work as a 'trainee dispenser' without doing the NVQ2. And an NVQ3 pharmacy member equiv can't deceide not to register as a techncian and drop down to dispenser status as said before the role on a day to day is the same. I have heard of some people doing this and they are now breaking the law but I also ask why demote yourself as well as risk proseucution?
