Are you able to sell denatured alcohol or formaldehyde in the absence of a pharmacist? If not why not?
I originally answered this question with "no,as these are poisons and have to be kept locked away under the supervision of the pharmacist", ( i think they are looking for alot of detail) Then i added any meds containing these items ie bazuka gel, should be run past the pharmacist first, incidently we cannot sell anything in our pharmacy if the pharmacist is not present, these answers werent correct and im currently scanning the m.e.p. but its really making no sense to me, im sooooooooo confused !!
Depends which denatured alcohol you are referring to. There's Completely Denatured Alcohol, Industrial Denatured Alcohol and Trade Specific Denatured alcohol. Elaborate?
It doesnt specify sleather, so i think they want answers to cover all, the question just says "are you able to sell denatured alcohol or formaldehyde in the absence of the pharmacist, explain you answers"
Completely denatured alcohol has no restrictions (legally but SOP might say otherwise). Used for things like cleaning, lighting etc
IDA & TSD have restrictions. Pharmacist needs copy of written authorisation to supply purchaser (e.g. their permit from HM Revenue to say they are licensed to be in possession for their business/trade) so for these 2 the answer to your question would be no because of the authority that has to be seen by the pharmacist and records. Is it the same rules for formaldehyde, does this come under CDA, TSDA or IDA, sorry to be a pain being so confused but i really cant afford to get this wrong, as this will result in a whole new set assignment of questions.
Erm...formaldehyde is classed as a poison I think. Part 2 poison. Has to be sold under the supervision of a pharmacist. Unless being sold from a premises that isn't a pharmacy but registered with local authority as a seller of Part 2 poisons, then the listed seller needs to supervise the sale.
