Launch of a new Community Pharmacy! Help Required!!!

    Dear all,

I am what is classed as a body corporate, wanting to launch a pharmacy for the local community in a densely populated residential area. I have experience in other businesses; however the pharmacy world is new to me. I have a few queries to start off with and would highly appreciate the help.

    1. How can I calculate (as accurately as possible) the items that I should be doing a month?

    2. How much do you make per item you dispense?

    3. How much do you make per methadone feed and how often do methadone patients get fed?

I am trying to formulate projections to work out costs, turnover and profitability of the prospective pharmacy.

    Thank You

There was another thread recently that should answer questions 1 and 2.

Do you have knowledge or experience in applying to the PCT for a pharmacy contract? I would have thought this will be your biggest stumbling block unless you are going to try the 100 hours loophole but then you've got to be open 100hours/week and your costs will go up without there necessarily being enough business to open a standard week.

I find it surprising that there are any "densely populated residential areas" with inadequate pharmaceutical services. how many doctors in the area..

PM me possibly we can work on a partnership. You invest money and I invest all the necessary knowledgebase along with myself being a pharmacist plus some PCT and GP contacts. What say ??

Hey, What thread was that? I cannot seem to find it. It's closely situated near one of the biggest hospitals in Europe, and there are approximately 5 medical practices within the catchment area. There are a few pharmacies that currently take the prescriptions of the area in question, however the site that I currently occupy is in a more prominent location.

I would obviously rather sign a 40 hour agreement however I do believe supplementary hours would prove highly profitable.

    Your help is much appreciated.

    Regards

Have you checked the online Drug Tariff which gives all the payments made for NHS services with the exception of locally negociated services.

One of the biggest hospitals in Europe? Are you in the UK.? Inpatient scripts will be dispensed inside the hospital. Out patient scripts coming your way dependent if the patients pass you on way to car park or bus. If you are not directly opposite few will even know you are there. I know three hospitals with pharmacies very close. None seemed more busy than usual.

Yes its in England. It is located on one of the main roads in the town and the footfall and through traffic is extremely high. It is positioned where it will most definantly be noticed. People en route to the town centre and out of the town will be key customers to this pharmacy, benefiting from small parking area to the front of the premisis directly on the main road.

Sounds a bit too good to be true. Ensure road not likely to be rerouted or dug up soon. If all OK, go for it and young pharmacists here will be delighted to help as few have any capital. A flat upstairs would be a bonus.
