I think I made an error..

The pharmacy I worked in, I was told there was a dispenser in the morning, and other "help" in the afternoon, who didn't know how to label. Ok fair enough, but this turned out to be someone who isnt even a fully qualified dispenser in the morning, and in the afternoon it was just the counter-assistant. I was working frantically, and while it wasn't busy all the time, when people did come in, they would come in all at once, and I had to work on the scripts by myself for most of the time. Plus, I had to deal with all the carried over problems from last week, etc, etc. However, I tried hard not to mess up, but pretty sure I did now.
A man comes in for his private prescription and the girl at the counter doesn't even know where anything is. So eventually found it after some digging up for half an hour. He then says he gets Viagra at a discount from the usual pharmacist. Counter-assitant is asking whats price? And we ended up charging him £29.99 for 10 tablets. Now that I think of it, that price was writtenfrom last time, and probably he was given less than 10 tablets, as it sounds too cheap. What will happen when the pharmacy find out? Am I going to have some action taken against me or something?

Most likely will never be noticed. I have done something similar when Pharmacy Manager puts up a price and I tell the customer and he pays, then find that label price is a lot more. Trouble will be when next comes in and wants the same. You should have checked back in the Private Script book to see what charged last time.
If worst comes to the worst, just offer to pay difference.

Thats the problem, the girl who could "help in the dispensary", was the counter girl, who did not have an absolute clue where anything was in the dispensary, so everything was left to me. The previous price of 29.99 was written on the prescription, but pretty sure it was much less than 10 tablets. Plus, I could not find the Private script book, so I wrote a note asking the pharmacist tomorrow to write the entry, so now it will probably get noticed... That pharmacist is not the owner though, they just work for the pharmacy chain, so may be ok....

If I was you, I wouldn't be losing any sleep over it. It's a minuscule issue considering the potential mistakes that can happen in a Pharmacy every day. Worst case scenario is that you under- charged for an item on a private script, no big deal.

Lose no sleep over this one.
I'd just be glad to get through the day.
Put a suggestion forward as follows...

    1. The owner decides on a private prescription pricing policy.
    2. The owner prints this out and then laminates a copy.
    3. It is used as a bookmark for the current page in the prescription book.
    4. It is so easy to find the policy now that everyone can stick to it.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

The price of a private prescription is not a legal issue and if the owner gets upset about it he won't book you again - that's all. You don't sound like you really want to work there under the circumstances so there is no problem.

    +1 exactly what he said.

If they really cause a fuss, go in and see them, ask them how much they've lost in the process, throw the right amount of money at them and walk out saying "don't ever bother ringing me again." Then ring the Society about their unqualified staff, and the NHS Counter Fraud Squad to check they've got enough cover to claim their Professional Allowance.

That's what I'd do in my head, anyway

In practice, they probably won't notice the charge, and you'll be mysteriously "already booked" every time they ring you.

£29.99 for 10 ! I'll have some at that price, unless they're the 25 mg in which case its probably reasonable

What are you? Pharmacist or mouse?

In the conditions you were required to work under it's a miracle you didn't make a SERIOUS mistake!

Complain to them but with the message that you are concerned that they might be leaving themselves open to the risk of seriously harming their patients - i.e you are being helpful. Tell them that due to the appalling lack of qualified support staff you had difficulty with pricing a private prescription and that they could be losing a lot of money if this is a common occurrence.

Or you could just lie down and let them walk all over you.

As you were signed on as the 'responsible pharmacist' would it be better to send a list of 'improvement suggestions' to owner or regular manager.
Diplomatic and assertive at the same time.
