*puts his PC geek hat on* Overclocking is setting your computer to run at a higher speed than the manufacturer's base settings allow for. Most people who overclock increase the recommended speeds of their CPU, graphics cards and RAM in order to get higher performance than would otherwise be attained. The downside to this is that stuff runs hotter and the life of some components can be shortened as a result.
I suppose the equivalent would be souping up your sports car by fitting a bigger turbo.
