Where I work, a new inexperienced counter assistant was taken on at the same rate as the dispenser with 10 years service. Now they have all had their hours and holiday cut under a new contract which seems to becoming the norm under the excuse of the credit crunch. Two of the girl's husbands just made redundant.

In my experience, the rise in minimum wage is constantly eroding the gap between unqualified and qualified assistants (in multiples, at least). Leads to very demoralised staff - those that have put in the effort to learn and extend, anyway - the very ones you should be looking after. But wage bills must be minimised and you're a number not a person after all.

It's difficult to get a general wage level as there are many differences of opinion as well as each company will have their own wage levels. I'm currently ACT training and expect to earn £9.10 per hour when I pass and begin the work.
We have a trainee dispenser who is on £6.60, but no sure what she will get after she passess. We are all awaiting our annual pay rise but H/O have been delaying the publication of the rises for a few weeks.

I think dispensers get paid way too less for what they do especially if a fault is made they could also be held liable. Minimum £10/hr i believe.

Hospital ACT locums were getting paid £18ph and that was around 3 years ago.
