Aminophylline Vs Theophylline

I do understand Aminophylline contains theophylline and ethylenediamine in 2:1 ratio and is more soluble in water than theophylline. In addition, Aminophylline is less potent and shorter-acting than theophylline.

So, what advantages do offer Aminophylline over theophylline? Is there any advantage at all over theophylline?

The whole point in formulating aminophylline is to allow theophylline to be administered via IV in acute severe asthma, although I don't think it's used much for this indication now. Check the BNF - there is no such thing as a "theophylline injection".
