Thread: US mature student

    Question US mature student

hi, US mature(27) student interested in studying Pharmacy program in th UK. i am applying thru UKAS which is confusing me. Does anyone know what kind of chance i have with a 2.4 gpa and a major in Political Science/minor in General Business? i am interested in Liverpool John Moore, Brighton, and Reading. i graduated in 2005
Also would it improve my chance if i applied for programs that offer the foundation year.

It is so hard to get into Pharmacy in the US. I figure my best chance is to get into a UK school and transfer after two years to the US.
    what do u think??

You will need US equivalent of A level chemistry. Have you taken Naplex etc in the states.? Check out the pharmacy section of student Dr network.

It will be an expensive hard struggle, but about half US costs.

Chemistry at 'A' (advanced) level in UK often said to be equal to first part of college in US. You could do a google on A level chemistry and somewhere will be the syllabus required. Mainly inorganic with simple organic added.

Where on earth are you? only 3am in the US east coast.

i am in Alabama. i have only taken General Biology and Anatomy 1 and 2. i majored in Political Science and they didn't require me to take any real science courses. what a mistake!! anyway, thanks for replying,

So sorry. Unfortunately, if a person gets wrong career advice and starts a course without a definite job, then you are stymied. However, taking the course shows you are intelligent and skills you have picked up would aid you in a sales or office career.
    Good luck.

Salaries roughly double those in UK, housing costs halved.
Look on google for US pharmacy student forums.

Have a look at Jim Plagakis website as well.
Could be good, but wouldn't want to do it full time.....
US pharmacy looks to me like where we are heading if we don't get our services straightened out soon.
