    patient confidentiality breach?

a pharmacist or staff is on a phone to surgery to sort out this prescription problem and customers waiting can clearly hear what the pharmacist or staff tells the surgery the patient name, address, Date of birth, medicine

    1) is the pharmacist or staff in breach patient confidentiality law?
    2) what is the best way to deal with this if you have not got a hand free phone, open and quiet dispensary?

Yet another problem of open plan dispensaries ignored by all the people who have the power to change it.

Now try ringing a surgery to check if a script is fraudulent/altered while the addict hops from foot to foot in front of you.....

Max it out - use the cordless dispensary phone right in front of them.
Then say, I'll put you on to the patient who will explain why they felt they had to alter the script.

Well, its just what I feel like doing!
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

Do you think it's got the range to work that far down the road?

Probably not, but they don't need to know that in the daily drama that is pharmacy.

One chap I caught out a few years ago like that, tried to tell us that he'd been to the Bookies' after picking up his Rx from the surgery and before coming to the Pharmacy; The handwritten line "DF118 - 100tb." on his Rx must have somehow "transferred over" through his betting slip, because in fact DF118 was the name of a racehorse he'd just put £10 on to win in the 3.30 at Chepstow...
