    Unhappy Hospital CD scripts!

    Hi everyone!

I had a script for concerta XL 18mg tablets prescribed by a hospital consultant on and FP10 HP form. Everything was fine apart from the number of tablets wasnt explicitly stated. Its a single daily dose and the number of days was in the box at the top. I endorsed the prescription with 28 days in words so it was in words and figures. I looked up the MEP and it stated the quantity of drug can be stated in 'dosage units'. Its bank holiday weekend and the patient had already had to get the Rx changed in the week because it didnt have the drug form stated so I supposed the number of days as dosage units might just about make the Rx legal.

    What do u guys think?

we are always put in such situation where we feel we are FORCED to do something against the law, just for patient benefit and to make the job easier.
remember the society are not responsible for any problems as a result, but you are. from SOPS to CD rules, every thing was designed to shift the blame/or to increase the work pressure on the pharmacist on duty........

how true, you summarised it all !!

pharmacists break one of the so many laws or SOPs all the time, majority fortunate ones (without realizing they broke the law - some will realize one day but some never will) are fortunate enough to be trouble free, minority a few unlucky ones got into trouble and learnt a big lesson
