    New Venture

    Hello all,

I was hoping i would be able to get some help from this site and was wondering if people would take time out to reply and give me a nudge in the right direction. I am currently working as a Housing Officer and have been in this field for approximatly 4 years now. I am now 26 and have looked back at what i want from my future and i can not see myself working in this field for the rest of my life since then this has prompted me to rethink what i am planning on doing in the future. I have looked at several pharmacist websites and was wondering if people would be able to be alittle bit more clear if i was to go in to college as a mature student i was told that i would have to take 3 course chemistry , biology and any other subject however some sites mention all 3 science subjects along with maths please would someone confirm this. Also if i was to take up this course what sort of grade levels would be required for me to get a place on the pharmacy course. Any other information or contact numbers and details of where further information can be obatined will be great and much appreciated.
Once again thanks for taking time out and reading.

No offence Webby786 ...but I would advise against you even consider Pharmacy as a career - there is alot of uncertainty and high dissatisfaction among the workforce. Also new regulations being introduced mean that pharmacy is undergoing alot of change - so much so that it is expected that alot of people will leave the profession.

I don't mean to sound negative but I can give you my views on "better" jobs:
    1. Dental hygienist: - approx same a' level subjects needed as pharmacy - only two yrs at uni - and on graduating you can earn 45k doing a four day week! - also less workplace stress

    2. Law - a one yr full time conversion course - any a'level subjects... degree not always needed

    3. Accountancy or Bookkepping

    4. Chiropody

all pay reasonably well offer flexibility AND you time is better planned - none of this business of having 10 people needing your attention at one time in a pharmacy etc etc

oh and regarding your original question: - two science subjects usually required - Chemistry essential - third subject can be anything - I did Chem, Biology and German of all things! - Grades will depend on university -although they are roughly the same - check out the main unis for pharmacy - eg Kings college london, Nottingham, Bath, Brighton , Portsmouth, Aston, plus many more..........

I visited a chiropodist this week. Half an hour and £30. Her book was full until September. With increasing numbers of elderly, will be more and more customers. You will not earn £60/hr in pharmacy.

    This...

    Or this?..
