If a patient comes in with a private prescription and has not got enough money with her. Could she opt to have 14 tablets of each of her two items and come back next week for the rest?

Can't see why not in theory. Do it as an owing, charge for the amount supplied, enter as such in private book.
No problem..don't even need to do an owing. As long as valid Rx, supply the 14 days and charge accordingly. Endorse Rx with quantity supplied, date, and private ref. no. Either hand Rx back to customer, or retain if happy to return to you for further supply.
Wish it was always so easy.

Disagree. Assuming Rx for 28 days, if only 14 days requested, then supply 14 days. It is a private transaction..cash for services. You cannot force the customer to purchase the full quantity if they choose not to do so. The script need not be retained as the appropriate register of supply will have been made in the private Rx book. If the customer prefers to receive a further 14 days from another pharmacy on a private basis as long as the script is still valid, then that is their own choice. A second dispensing fee should and would, I assume, be charged in either case. (ie Rx held, charged by pharmacy who issued first supply, or returned to customer, charge made by pharmacy which supplied subsequently).

In the multiples where I work, private script dispensing fees seem to be a thing of the past. The computer appears to work out the price on trade + 50%.

If the item costs less than the minimum charge though it may work out more expensive having it dispensed twice.
