Yeah, it's normally........'New role for pharmacists in.........'
Pharmacists do not exist to "save doctors' time" !!

It's as if the powers that be don't think we do enough at the moment.

Wow. The indy is def taking advantage of his/her pre-reg. Atleast sit in with student so that you can intervene if some wrong advice was given!

Is the indy checking the mur after it has been conducted and signing it off before the patient leaves the pharmacy?

Friend has just phoned me in a state. She is facing possible disciplinary action for not doing enough MURs.

It seems that bullying and unethical behaviour amongst certain multiples is becoming increasingly commonplace. Particularly common is the setting of high targets for MURs which often seem to take no account of whether pharmacists actually have time to do them (whilst maintaining supervision over OTC sales and a busy dispensary). Also, it ought to be obvious to any ethical employer that the ability to perform MURs will depend on the availability of customers who: a) want to have an MUR and b) need an MUR.

Shocking thing is that this isn't a large multiple, it is a small independent group. Guess they are feeling the pinch and need the cash.

i read your blog and get the drift that they are not your most loved topic. i beleive the number 400 MUR's per year was plucked from a hat. perhaps when the money for the NHS starts running out they will target the 400 and change it to 200. halfs your frustrations. me the simple mention of MUR's from a store manager winds me up. i actually like doing clinical work but the constant reminders from others is starting to boarder on ocd symptoms. i am sure as and when i find a suitable candidate i will do an MUR but kind of resent having a shotgun held at my back by a non pharmacist store manager all day. a manager that accosts you when you have given out an RX to ask why did i not get them and do an MUR. my reply is usually "thats not the patient, its their relative", to which the managers reply is usually "so". me thinks some managers lack the "spirit" of what an MUR is intended for.

    ...and who is the RP?
    Not the non-pharmacist manager.

If they continue start a grievance procedure with HR.
If they discipline you get the PDA in ... you have a right to a Union Rep or a fellow employee.
They will ask the relevant questions and make them squirm.
Where am I?; In the Pharmacy.
Who are you?; The new Number 2.
Who is number 1?; You are number 6.
    What do you want?;..................

I think the limit is there to prevent some pharmacies from taking an unfair proportion of the global budget.
Perhaps when the money starts running out they will halve the payments for each MUR.

Who is a suitable candidate? Identify groups of patients who will benefit from a review and talk to them when they come in to the pharmacy.

With budgets passing to local authorities rather than Doctors consortiums you are more likely to be providing social care rather than clinical care in the future. Which is better Smoking cessation and weight management or Medicines Use reviews? MUR's are surely a better use of your clinical training.

    Re: MUR pressure

I simply refused to become MUR accredited and I'll tell you exactly why. How the hell are you supposed to conduct a good quality MUR, while solely in charge of a busy dispensary? You can't physically be in two places at once, therfore you cant do it. Even in quieter shops, queues can form reasonably quickly.
It's just another way, the multiples extract every last drop of blood, sweat and tears out of you.
