Not sure as I didn't need any meds. I did need a walking stick for a couple of days (I have an artificial hip) and my hubby went to the medical centre to see if they could lend me one - I left mine at home as I don't often need it. He was told we could hire a standard metal grey NHS one for £15 per day, or buy it for £35!!!! I said no way, I'll use the hand rails!
Another guy had some stitches removed as he just had a small op to remove a funny mole from his back, and needed them removing and a few melolin dressings - cost £78!!!!!!
Nice work if you can get it........

Keep it clean because I'll be watching !
I used to visit cruise liners when a med rep. P&O were in Tilbury docks, Stratheden, Orsova etc. At that time they all had a Pharmacist, Dr and Nurse on board. In the dispensary we enjoyed some whisky from a bottle labelled spirits of chloroform and I was very careful going pass the policeman at the gate and slept it off in a field. Also enjoyed excellent lunches as time in dock was used as training for the crew.
I have thought on preparing a talk on 'drugs from the jungle' for an Amazon cruise. Could also do one on Drugs from the desert for middle east cruises.

You should visit a dedicated Dr site for this type of info. Generally, if the employer pays the NHI, then employed, if locum pays their own NHI. then self employed.

I feel bad now because I spent most of my final few days as pharmacy manager on the phone (my mobile I hasten to add, wouldn't dream of using the pharmacy phone for such things!) to locum agencies to sort out some work following the end of my job. Was offered a weeks work in devon so I then had to arrange accommodation etc. However, the pharmacy wasn't busy and I had already hoovered, tidied up, cleared the owings and even made the tea (!); and the staff were all dusting/reading magazines, so it wasn't as if I really had anything better to do and wouldn't have ben able to sort anything out outside of office hours anyway.
Don't think I would do that as a locum tho - the guilt is just too much!
As the estimable Mr Schofield has previously said there is good and bad in all walks of life. However as employers I do think we don't fess up the bad locums to each other enough
I agree there are good and bad locums out there. I'm sure most have come in to a dispensary left over from the previous day that looks like it's been turned upside down and shaken!
Should locums have a mini CV with references on when booking work directly with smaller companies - this would show what they can and can't do and also hopefully mean that there was a duty to live up to the hype on this CV?
I think there will be tougher times for the 'bad' locums coming up as all the larger companies are looking hard at their budgets and are wanting to convert long-term locums to employees. The business impact on having someone permanent in a role even compared with good locums is also significant - MUR's, service provision and customer service all naturally improving and hence business turnover.
Multiples are using branch feedback forms more and more to only re-engage good locums. Add to this that new pharmacy contracts (non 100 hour) have been granted on the basis that the nearest pharmacies weren't performing MURs and enhanced services and that relationships with your PCT are becoming more important; all of these can be adversely affected by engaging poor quality locums.
As a locum, I used to pride myself in doing a good job and to leave the dispensary as I'd expect to find it and avoided the phrase "I'm just a locum" at all costs when working!
Bad locums defintiely make the good ones look better as Webferret pointed out ... however, will there be anywhere for 'bad locums' to hide in the future?

This one seemed to give a sensible post, although it may have been cut and paste. However, signature inviting probably a pirate site.

I think you're becoming a bit paranoid.
I don't know what the site rules on advertising are but the links above all look ok to me. A Manchester area locum agency.
Perhaps there ought to be a blanket ban on links in sigs?
I reported a user recently and am still waiting for the links in their signature to appear, perhaps I was wrong...
The post I deleted had links to downloads for Ipads. It was Doramide7.
